Tržnice Olomouc, a historic market hall nestled in the urban fabric of Olomouc, has long stood as a symbol of the city’s mercantile heritage. Its austere façade carries the weight of time, anchoring the past firmly in the present. This proposal reimagines its outer skin—not by covering or concealing it, but by setting a poetic counterpoint: a temporary mirrored installation that shimmers, sways, and reveals.
A system of metallic ribbons—lightweight, reflective, and in constant motion—will be suspended in front of the building’s façade. This second skin creates a shimmering threshold between past and present, permanence and ephemerality. As the wind moves through the installation, the ribbons dance, catching fragments of the surrounding streetscape and casting it back in motion.
Visitors can walk between the ribbons, immersing themselves in a space that feels both open and intimate, where the boundaries between architecture and body, history and now, begin to blur. This spatial in-betweenness—neither fully inside nor entirely outside—offers a temporary theatre for encounter and contemplation.

ZHANG Jie / 张婕is a spatial designer and artist based in Shanghai. She trained as an architect at Huaqiao University and the University of Hong Kong from 2013 to 2020. Since relocating to Shanghai in 2020, she has focused on small-scale installations and spatial design, while continuously providing commercial interior design services for retail companies and government projects.
YANG Chen / 杨晨 is an architectural designer and illustrator based in Florence. He studied architecture at Huaqiao University (2013-2018) and Politecnico di Torino (2019-2021), and has worked at WNA Architects in Torino and ACE Srl. in Florence.
